Reflect and Reset, Part 1: Pause Before You Push Forward

October can feel like an invitation to start fresh. But before you add another goal, change another routine, or decide you need to try harder, give yourself a moment to reflect.

How are you doing—beyond the calendar, the responsibilities, and the usual “I’m fine”?

Maybe September brought a routine that works. Maybe it brought more stress than you expected. Maybe you’ve been so busy helping everyone else adjust that you haven’t noticed what you need.

Reflection isn’t a grade. It’s a chance to understand where you are.

Notice What the Month Taught You

Think about the past few weeks:

  • What helped you feel supported?

  • What consistently felt difficult?

  • What took more energy than you expected?

  • What progress deserves a little recognition?

You might notice that rushed mornings set the tone for your day. Or that a few quiet minutes after work help you feel more present at home. Perhaps your child opens up during a car ride more easily than when you ask questions at the dinner table.

Those observations give you somewhere to begin.

Choose One Small Reset

You don’t need to rebuild your whole routine. Choose one adjustment that responds to something you noticed.

If mornings feel overwhelming, prepare one thing the night before. If your calendar feels crowded, look for one commitment you can reconsider. If you’ve felt alone, reach out to someone you trust.

A reset can be small enough to fit into the life you already have.

This week’s Reflect and Reset:
Finish these two sentences: “Something I want to carry forward is…” and “Something I want to adjust is…”
