Individual Therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy is one-on-one counseling between a client and a licensed mental health professional. It provides a private, supportive environment to work through concerns, understand patterns, develop coping strategies, and make meaningful changes.

At Riverbase Counseling, therapy is collaborative. The therapist brings clinical knowledge and guidance, while the client brings something equally important: expertise about their own life.

When might individual therapy be helpful?

Individual therapy may be recommended for concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD-related challenges, emotional regulation, stress, behavioral concerns, school difficulties, relationship concerns, grief, life transitions, self-esteem, or other challenges affecting daily life.

Therapy may involve learning practical coping skills, identifying unhelpful thought patterns, problem-solving, processing experiences, strengthening communication, improving emotional awareness, and working toward goals established during treatment planning.

How long will I need therapy?

There is no universal timeline.

The frequency and duration of services depend on the client's individual needs, goals, progress, clinical recommendations, and other circumstances. Treatment goals are reviewed throughout the counseling process so that therapy continues to have a clear purpose.

The goal isn't to keep someone in therapy forever. It's to help clients develop insight, skills, confidence, and resources they can carry with them long after counseling ends.
